OHIO SAMI CCOE

TRAINING & EDUCATION

The Ohio SAMI CCOE provides continuous training and education in program development, clinical treatment, and team building as a way to support service agencies in the development, implementation, and ongoing operation of SAMI programs that are based on the New Hampshire-Dartmouth IDDT model. The SAMI CCOE disseminates the latest research and evidence-based practices that pertain to the treatment of dual disorders through conferences, workshops, and its web site, as well as through consultations that take place at agencies and via teleconferencing and videoconferencing.

BIOPSYCHO-SOCIAL APPROACH

The IDDT model views mental illness and alcohol and other drug abuse and addiction as having biological, psychological, and social causes and effects that require integrated biopsychosocial interventions. As a result, the CCOE’s training and education activities integrate cutting-edge research and best practices that address dual disorders from the following perspectives:

  • biology (medicine)
  • psychology
  • social interaction
  • culture and gender sensitivity
  • spirituality

SAMI TEAM

The SAMI CCOE’s training activities address the needs of the multidisciplinary service teams that help persons with dual disorders. Service team members typically include the following.

PEER SUPPORT

Through our training and education initiatives, we encourage SAMI program administrators, agency directors, team leaders, and team members to develop formal and informal networks of professional support. We encourage team members to communicate with each other and with their peers at other IDDT programs within Ohio and throughout the country. These networks help accelerate learning and retention of IDDT principles and team-building skills. These networks also help spread awareness of "tricks of the trade" (or lessons learned through practice) more efficiently.
