Training Pre-requisite:
 1). Participants MUST have completed two full-days of Motivational Interviewing training, namely,  Motivational Interviewing I and Motivational Interviewing II or their equivalent (These events did not have to be sponsored by the Center for EBPs at Case and its affiliates--e.g., Ohio SAMI CCOE, Ohio SE CCOE).

2.) The Center for EBPs at Case will screen registrants to assure appropriateness for this training event.

- Due to constraints set forth by funding policies of the State of Ohio, refreshments will not be provided during the training.

Abstract:
Clinical supervisors who provide meaningful supervision of Motivational Interviewing (MI) skill-development to service-team members must be equipped with some essential tools, including skill-evaluation, clinical feedback, and planning. This workshop is designed for clinical supervisors at organizations that provide services to people diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness and/or substance use disorders. Participants must have prior training and experience in MI.

Participants will review MI resources for applicability in their clinical supervision to help service-team members develop MI competencies. This event features large and small group discussions and practical exercises which facilitate familiarity with available resources and promote action-planning that enhances current supervision strategies.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to ...

1. Identify challenges and strategies with integrating MI into services for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and substance use disorders.

2. Identify and describe how to use three resources useful in the provision of MI focused supervision.

3. Create a plan outlining next steps in their development of MI focused supervision.

AGENDA:

Deborah Myers, M.Ed., PCC-S, is a Consultant and Trainer with the Ohio Substance Abuse Mental Illness Coordinating Center of Excellence, a program of the Center for Evidence-Based Practices at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.  In this capacity Ms. Myers provides programmatic consultation as well as clinical consultation and training to agencies implementing the New Hampshire-Dartmouth Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment (IDDT) model.  Ms. Myers has also worked as a program manager in community behavioral healthcare where she implemented the IDDT model of care and participated as one of four Ohio sites in the National Implementing Evidence-Based Practices Project.  Ms. Myers is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an international association of trainers in motivational interviewing. Ms. Myers has a BS in Mental Health and a M.Ed. in Agency & Community Counseling from the University of Toledo, Toledo, OH.

The Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH) has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. As an IACET Authorized Provider, ODMH offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under IACET guidelines. ODMH is  authorized by IACET to offer _ 0.6    CEUs for this program.

ODMH Continuing Education Committee is an approved provider of Continuing Education for RNs for the Ohio Board of Nursing and has awarded 5.5 CE contact hours per OBN003 92-1361CO.

ODMH has been approved as a provider of Continuing Professional Education credit by the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapist Board.   5.5 CPEs have been awarded to Social Workers per RSX088902-1533CO and to Counselors per RCX068915-1522CO.

ODMH is approved by OPA-MCE to offer continuing education for Psychologists. 5.5 MCEs are awarded per 311334820-768CO.

The Center for Evidence Based Practices has obtained approval through the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board of Cuyahoga County for 5.41 RCH credits awarded to Chemical Dependency  Counselors through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board Inc. per PID# 06-0911-17PVN-CS
