Benefits Planning | The Basics: The Argument for Employment

A nominal fee of $50.00 will be charged to cover some of the workshop costs.



OVERVIEW:


ABSTRACT:
This training event is designed to provide participants with basic information about the impact that employment earnings have upon benefits such as SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, and Medicare. The training focuses on the concerns about benefits that consumers (beneficiaries) have which may keep them from searching for employment. The training teaches participants how to address these concerns about benefits with facts about benefits programs in ways that support and promote informed choice among consumers.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Describe common reservations individuals have about benefits that keep them from pursuing employment.
  2. Identify the impact of employment income upon SSI, SSDI, Medicaid and Medicare.
  3. Develop skills to have discussions with individuals who receive benefits (beneficiaries) that support their ability to make informed choices about their employment and benefits.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE:
Tuesday, May 26, 2009, or as soon as registration capacity is met.

Steve Shober, BS, LSW, is a consultant and trainer at the Ohio Supported Employment CCOE—-a program of the Center for EBPs at Case Western Reserve University. Steve is a former vocational rehabilitation specialist, job coach, and team leader who learned benefits-planning skills to help the people he served navigate state and federal benefits programs.

CONTINUING EDUCATION:
The Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH) has been approved as an Authorized
 Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET),
 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. As an IACET Authorized Provider,
 ODMH offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under IACET guidelines. ODMH is  authorized by IACET to offer _0.375     CEUs for this program.

ODMH Continuing Education Committee is an approved provider of Continuing Education for RNs and LPNs for the Ohio Board of Nursing and has awarded 3.75 CE contact hours per OBN003 92-1329CO.

ODMH has been approved as a provider of Continuing Professional Education credit by the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapist Board.   3.75 CPEs have been awarded to Social Workers per RSX088902-1507CO and to Counselors per RCX068915-1496CO.

ODMH is approved by OPA-MCE to offer continuing education for Psychologists. 3.75  CEs are awarded per 311334820-745CO.

Ohio SE CCOE has obtained approval through the Cuyahoga County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board for 3.75 RCH credits awarded to Chemical Dependency Counselors through the Ohio Board for Chemical Dependency Professionals per PID 06-0911-17PVN-RS
