WHO SHOULD ATTEND The conference is designed for those who want to acquire more information about and practical skills that pertain to providing Supported Employment (SE), the evidence based practice for people with severe mental illness. It is also designed for those seeking more contact with the professional peer-networks that will help develop, grow, and sustain these efforts. The conference will help the following acquire the awareness, knowledge, and applied skills utilized in the delivery of SE: - Direct-service providers - Team leaders - Program managers - Executive administrators - Policy-makers - Consumers - Family members - Advocates - Other stakeholders
ABSTRACT Participants will receive training in areas related to helping persons who are recovering from severe mental illness to find and keep competitive jobs in their local communities. There will be 2 plenary sessions and 26 workshops that will address a wide variety of topics, including the following: -Research support for the 7 core SE principles and their implications for voc rehab staff -Medicaid buy-in -Effective VR-SE collaboration -Funding of SE services -Motivational interviewing -Applying principles of consumer choice -Staff characteristics, skills, and attitudes -Job development strategies with emphasis on those with a legal history -Benefits planning -Substance use disorders -Psychotropic medications -Continuous quality improvement through fidelity action-planning -Follow along service for consumers -Supervision -Tobacco use, cessation, and its effects upon employment.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES Tuesday, March 18 (Day One) As a result of attending this day, participants will be able to: 1. Describe the evidenced-based practice of Supported Employment. 2. Identify key components of benefits planning. 3. Apply the principles of Supported Employment in daily practice. 4. Apply consumer choice about disclosure in daily practice. 5. Describe how motivational interviewing helps people engage in self-enhancing change processes (including a return to work). 6. Apply knowledge about managing effects of medication upon work and substance use when seeking and sustaining employment. 7. Describe tips for effective VR-SE collaboration. 8. Apply knowledge about funding for SE services. 9. Develop and strengthen existing professional networks.
Wednesday, March 19 (Day Two) As a result of attending this day, participants will be able to: 1. Describe the research for the 7 core SE principles. 2. Describe the use of supervision to support and develop essential competencies. 3. Explain employer needs and effective job development strategies. 4. Describe how motivational interviewing helps people engage in self-enhancing change processes (including a return to work). 5. Describe professional characteristics for competence in service delivery. 6. Design a continuous quality-improvement process for Supported Employment. 7. Apply knowledge about benefits planning and Medicaid buy-in. 8. Describe the effects of substance use when seeking and sustaining employment. 9. Develop and strengthen existing professional networks.

This information will help you choose your workshops. Refer to this information while you are choosing your workshops as you register. 2. License number: You must include your practice-license number (or Social Security number) on the electronic registration form to receive Continuing Education certificates, which will be sent via US Mail after the event. 3. Email address: When registering, you must include your email address to receive your registration confirmation (which will be sent via email a few moments after you complete the online form) and to receive your email payment receipt, which will be sent once we receive your payment.
4. Review your email address: Please be sure that you enter your email address correctly. Any typographical errors will prevent the delivery of messages from us to you. 5. Confirmation email: An email confirmation will be sent a few moments after you complete the online registration form. Use your email confirmation for your organizational reimbursement process.

As an IACET Authorized Provider, ODMH offers CEUs for its programs that qualify under IACET guidelines. ODMH is authorized by IACET to offer up to 1.075 CEUs for this program.
ODMH Continuing Education Committee is an approved provider of Continuing Education for RNs and LPNs for the Ohio Board of Nursing and has awarded up to 10.75 CE contact hours per OBN003 92-1239CO.

Psychologists will need to attend the ENTIRE Program (both days) in order to receive credit.
